Rincón
Located west of Añasco and Aguada, the town that means "corner" is home to the best surfing beaches in Puerto Rico. Rincón was placed on the map after the 1968 World Surfing Championship held in Domes Beach. In the 1960s, Rincón was the site of a small nuclear reactor plant, but was quickly closed and cleaned up. This was Puerto Rico's only nuclear plant. The government is planning on turning it into a museum.

Things to do

-
Surfing: It is necessary to surf in Rincón, since it is the surfing town of Puerto Rico. I never surfed before but I questioned how hard it could be. I borrowed a surf board from the hostel and taught myself at Dome's Beach. I did manage to stand up but I know with more time I could have stood up on it for more than half a minute.
If you rather have lessons, here are two places:
- Puntas Surf School
-
Visit all the great beaches: You can expect to be surrounded by lots of water in such a small island like Puerto Rico. Go to Dome's Beach, Sandy Beach, Maria's Beach and Tres Palmas.
-
El Faro: The first place I visited in Rincón was the lighthouse. The view of Dome's Beach from the plaza is mesmerizing. This is the perfect time to grab a mavà from an ice cream truck and an alcapurria or pincho from a food truck in the parking area.
-
Eat at Tamboo Beside the Pointe: Before or after taking a dip in the water, sit on the balcony beachfront restaurant/bar and order any of their fun, specialized drinks like Isla Verde and an order of the fritters platter. The best afternoon ever! Sandy Beach Rd
-
Shop at Mango Beach Club: Located next to Sandy's Beach, this shop has very cute beach wear.
Nightlife

-
Drink El Pirata at Villa Cofresi Hotel: Villa Cofresi's signature drink made of rum, coconut water and milk topped with cinnamon served in a real coconut. Because this is a heavy drink, I would recommend sharing with a person or two, but if you think you can handle it, well then, Salud! Carr 115 KM 12.0
-
Have a rum punch or two at Calypso Cafe: Laid back and open air place where you can watch the beautiful Rincón sunset while drinking a rum punch and eating delicious food. Maria's Beach
-
Dance at Cocktail Bar: One of the few nightclub scenes in Rincón. It felt Americanized because of the techno and electronic music and everyone standing around and talking, but the $3.50 cocktails makes it all okay.
-
Rock Bottom at Casa Verde: A tree-house style bar known as a tourist and local favorite during the busy winter months open till 2am. Sandy Beach
-
Shipwreck Bar & Grill: Possibly quite tacky, like many other boat pirate-style restaurants, but all in good fun. This restaurant next to the marina, offers a selection of home-style international cuisine and happy hour specials on drinks and food. They also have a Sunday pig roast, very Puerto Rican.
