It is inevitable to fall in love with Caribbean weather, its beaches, and laid-back culture. This is why people visit the Caribbean year-round. Caribbean climate slightly varies. The temperatures average from 75 to 85 degrees in both summer and winter. In the evenings, temperatures can go as low as 65 and can go as high as 95 during the day. In high altitude locations such as Jarabacoa and Constanza in the Dominican Republic temperatures are lower than average. Temperatures rarely reach 100 but I think 95 degrees Fahrenheit is hot enough!

There are three seasons considered when traveling to the Caribbean:

  • Hurricane Season: from June 1 to November 30. Many might think to avoid the Caribbean this time of year but it is rare travelers would be in any danger of storms. Occasional rainfall may occur but they usually dissipate within an hour. Of course, if there are any concerns, travelers can follow the Weather Channel or the U.S. National Hurricane Center for warnings and updates.

I backpacked the Caribbean during the summer and there was rarely rainfall. So no worries!

  • Peak Season: from mid-December to mid-April. The weather is nearly perfect this time of year, which means hotels are very busy and prices are at its highest. If you decide to travel around this time, to escape the cold weather from the United States, Canada or Northern Europe, make sure to book the hotel at least three months in advance. Planning to go in the holidays such as Christmas and Easter, bookings should be done at least six months in advance.

  • Off-Season: The rest of the year is considered a low-season. The beaches are less crowded, the hotels are less expensive and enjoying the food and culture is less rushed. However, there might be a downfall. Because it's off season, certain tour attractions, restaurants or hotels might not be opened, but this usually occurs in the Fall, so don't worry too much about it.

Now you can decide when to go, but DO GO!

Until next time...

Saludos!
